Boxers face new experiences at University of Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific men and women's track teams competed in the University of Portland Indoor #1 meet on Sunday, January 26th. The athletes competed in the 200-meter run, mile, 4x400 relay, as well as two events that are not common for competition, the 600 and the mixed 4x400 relay. In these two unique events, two school records were set, as well as numerous top ten performances across all events.

Top Performers

Kamron Shields started the day strong finishing second overall in the men's 200m race in a time of 23.44, an indoor personal best and the fifth best time indoors in school history. Peyton Fisher also had a good day, placing fourth overall in the men's mile in a time of 4:28.13 which puts him 8th all-time in the event.

The women had some great performances as well, with Angelica Gatica-Gomez finishing the women's 600m in fourth place with a time of 1:42.20, setting a new school record for the women in the process. Natalie Taylor had a strong showing as well, racing the women's mile in a time of 5:29.05, finishing 8th overall and posting the fifth fastest time in school history.

Finally, the Boxers finished the day by racing five teams in the mixed 4x400m relay, an event where men and women compete together on one team. As this was the first time Pacific has entered a team in this event, all five teams finished to start a new all-time list, with the team of Preston Graham, Karina Reddy, Aiden Olmos, and Ava Schreffler posting the fastest time of 4:08.33 and setting the first ever school record in the event.

"The meet was a great success, with all athletes delivering strong season openers," said Pacific head track and field coach Ryan Hunter-Simms. "It is exciting to see the results of fall training coming to life, and the team's depth this year with an exciting freshman class. We're looking forward to building on this momentum as we compete next week in Spokane."
