FOREST GROVE, Ore. — On a picture-book perfect Saturday at Hanson Stadium, two new Pacific record entries were etched into the school record books at the Pacific Open.
For the second weekend in a row, the Boxer 4 x 100 women's relay team re-wrote their own best effort. The team of
Breezy Brookbank,
Mikaela Bernards,
Ary Burgoyne and
Marissa Smith ran the one-lap race in 49.02, bettering their time of 49.32 set last week at George Fox. Today, they just edged Puget Sound (49.24) for the first place ribbon.
Smith also put her individual stamp on the 200 meters. She won that race today in 25.86, leading a pack of Boxers that took the top three places. Brookbank was right behind her in 25.99, followed by Burgoyne in third (26.52). Smith's time broke an 11-year mark, posted by Brooke Barker (25.94) in 2005.
Pacific also got first place performances on the women's side from
Megan Eberhardt in the 400 meters (58.88) and Jessica Knoll in the 800 (2:17.61). Both times rank second all-time at Pacific.
Sarah Curl won the high jump with a personal best leap of 5-1, and the Boxers went 1-2 in the women's javelin with
Mackenzie Huddleston first with a fling of 134-9 1/2, followed by
Emily Sproul's toss of 130-1.
April Knowlton was second in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:57), while
Dianna Church had the same place in the shot put (38-4), just an inch behind winner Hannah Lambert of Southern Oregon.
Katie Rock was second in the discus (116-8 3/4).
For the men,
Josh Huffman was the medal winner in the discus (143-8), same for James Willcuts in the triple jump (43-5 3/4). Sean Higginbotham crossed the line second in the 200 meters (22.73) and
Dalton Stanley was fourth in 22.88.
Connor Pappas was third for the Boxers in the 100 meters (11.23) and
George Twigg-Smith was third in the high jump (6-1 1/4).
The Pacific Open was the final tune-up for the Boxers before next Friday's Northwest Conference Championships at Lewis & Clark.
