Results (PDF)PORTLAND, Ore. — Pacific's 4 x 400 relay team and long distance hurdler
Kelsey Lee each rewrote their own school records to highlight Boxer performances at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Griswold Stadium and the Eldon Fix Track.
Those two performances and many others helped Pacific to a fifth place finish with 72 points, a spot that they shared with George Fox. Fourth-place Willamette was just a few notches ahead of the Bruins and Boxers with 80 points. Whitworth won the team title in a runaway with 216 points.
Lee finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.90, just edged out by George Fox's Sarah King (1:03.25). That marked the second time this season that Lee, a junior from Monroe, Wash., had clipped the previous school record of 1:04.44 set by Amy Higgins in 1997.
The Boxer 4 x 400 relay team also busted the previous Pacific standard for that race for the second time. They teamed the four-lap sprint in 3:59.12, finishing just behind Puget Sound (3:58.95). Earlier this season, the same foursome of
Megan Eberhardt,
Jess Knoll,
Marissa Smith and
Breezy Brookbank just inched past the four-minute barrier to re-write the record book at 3:59.99.
Lee and the relay team gave Pacific eight points each. The discus duo of
Karen Du and
Katie Rock also supplied points with their third and fifth place finishes. Du's throw of 125-11 was good for third with Rock just a few feet behind at 122-10 1/4. Those flings now rank second and third all-time at Pacific.
Three Boxers nabbed fourth place finishes, just one spot away from All-NWC honors. Knoll was fourth in the 800 meters (2:17.14), which places her second on Pacific's career list. Eberhardt ran 59.71 in the 400, also second on the PU Top 10 list, and
Stephenie Spencer was the fourth finisher in the 5,000 meters in 18:12.19. Spencer's time was the fastest for a Boxer since 2005 and fourth best all-time.
Other Saturday place winners included Smith (5th) and Brookbank (8th) in the 200 meters in 26.01 and 26.40 respectively.
For the Boxer men,
James Wilcuts provided Pacific's top performance with a third place leap in the triple jump (43-10 3/4).
Garrett Price was fourth in the 100 meters (11.07) and Connor Pappas was seventh (12.90). The men's 4 x 100 relay team placed fourth of eight squads in 42.52, with Pacific Lutheran winning the race in 41.86.
Whitworth also won the men's team title with 187 points, just clipping George Fox who had 181.5. Pacific finished eighth with 26 total points.
