Box Score The Pacific University volleyball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 win over host Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon.
The Boxers (7-7, 1-3 NWC) were led by
Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.) and
Tiare Kaopua (Nanakuli, Hawai'i), who had 16 and 14 kills, respectively. The Boxers posted a .193 hitting percentage in the win compared to .096 for the host Pioneers.
Senior setter
Jamie Steach (Pasco, Wash.) nearly had a double double with 42 assists and nine digs to go along with a pair of service aces.
The Pioneers (2-9, 1-3 NWC) was led by Julia Somers, who had a match-high 17 kills and six block assists in the loss. Kortney Meyer also had a hand on six block assists to go with seven kills. Four-different players had a pair of service aces.
A 10-2 run in the first set propelled Lewis & Clark to a first set victory. The second set started with the two teams exchanging points back and forth until a
Morgan Mendicino (San Diego, Calif.) service ace and back-to-back attack errors put the Boxers' ahead. Later in the set, the Pioneers rallied to tie the set at 19 before back-to-back attack errors put Pacific back in front for the remainder of the set. In the set, Pacific posted a .211 hitting percentage compared to .026 for Lewis & Clark. The Boxers controlled the lead for nearly the entire third set with a .333 hitting percentage with 16 kills on 36 attempts.
Pacific wrapped up the win in the fourth set after it was tied on three occasions. A service and attack error by the Pioneers as well as a Duncan kill provided the Boxers' a three-point lead and an advantage that they would hold for the remainder of the set to secure the win.
Next up for Pacific is a matchup against George Fox on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in Newberg.
