Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.) had her second-straight double double and fifth of the season in leading the Pacific University volleyball team to a 25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 25-23 win over Puget Sound on Saturday in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (10-1, 4-0 NWC) have rattled off 10-straight victories after a season-opening loss which is the longest winning streak in the school's NCAA history. Plus, with the win, Pacific sits a top of the conference after the first two weekends of action. Pacific out hit Puget Sound, .203 to .087 in the win.
For Pacific, fellow sophomore
Milana Ivkovic had 12 kills – five of which came in the first set – to tie a career high for the Beaverton, Ore. native, plus she added four blocks to the win. It is her third match of the season with double-digit kills. Junior setter
Ellie Parker (Beaverton, Ore.) also had a double double with 40 assists and 13 digs for Pacific.
Puget Sound, who falls to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the NWC, were led by an 11-kill effort from Kristen Miguel, who hit .290 in the defeat. Rachel Garrison and Shelby Kantner added 18 and 15 digs, respectively and Moira McVicar had 32 assists.
In the first set, Pacific overcame a pair of early deficits until back-to-back kills by Ivkovic put the Boxers ahead 10-6 to prompt a Puget Sound timeout. The Boxers remained in front and secured the set when sophomore
Bailey Servoss (Mount Vernon, Wash.) hammered down a kill. The Loggers nearly lead from start to finish in the second set with a 25-14 victory as the two teams headed into intermission.
With the match tied at a set apiece, Pacific raced out to a 9-3 lead in the third set on the strength of a pair of kills by junior
Morgan Mendicino (San Diego, Calif.) and Servoss. The Loggers rallied to cut the deficit to one on seven occasions before tying the set at 19, 20 and 21. The host Boxers came back with a kill by Ivkovic and back-to-back hitting errors put the Boxers in position to secure the set. After a pair of Pacific attack errors, the resilient Pacific squad closed out the set with a kill by Mendicino to secure the set.
The fourth set was tied on four occasions but it was four kills each from Mendicino and Duncan that sparked the home team to the victory. In the set, Pacific hit at a .317 clip compared to .053 for the Loggers.
Next, Pacific will host Linfield on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at 7 p.m.
