Double-digit kills by
Milana Ivkovic and
Morgan Mendicino, who had 14 and 11 kills, respectively sparked a complete team effort for the Pacific volleyball team to defeat host Willamette, 14-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-23 on Friday.
The Boxers (9-5, 3-2 NWC) picked up contributions from
Bailey Servoss, who had 11 kills and five blocks,
Haley Walz registered a match-high 27 digs and
Ellie Parker, who had 38 assists in the win.
The Bearcats (6-9, 3-3 NWC) started the match with a .484 hitting percentage en route to an 25-14 win in the opening set. Kendall Fox had a double double in the loss to lead Willamette with 14 kills and 11 digs in the defeat.
The second set saw four service aces by Mendicino, including a pair after Willamette had rallied to tie the set at 12. After tying the set, the Boxers remained in front for the remainder of the set.
The third set was tightly contested with neither team able to sustain a comfortable lead. The Boxers withstood a pair of set points by the host Bearcats, capitalizing off a service error and a Servoss kill. Pacific closed out the set with a kill by Servoss and
Jordan Zweifel for the 28-26 win. Servoss led the Boxer attack with five of her eight kills.
The Boxers controlled the fourth set, including four kills each by Mendicino and Ivkovic. Pacific out hit the Bearcats by a .133 to .093 margin. The two teams traded the first four points until an attack error by the visitors and a kill by Ivkovic put Pacific ahead for nearly the rest of the set.
Next, Pacific will travel to McMinnville to face Linfield on Saturday at 5 p.m.
