Portland, Ore. – The Boxers have been setting school records all throughout the indoor season, and this weekend was no different. Four more school records were broken by Brooke France, Andrew Reid, Jenna Hoiland and Garrett Stewart at the Portland Indoor meet #3.
On Saturday at George Fox University, Brooke France broke her own school record in the women's weight throw, for the second time, with a new PR of 15.70m to win the competition. Her teammate Andrew Reid then broke the school record in the men's weight throw, with a new PR of 15.53, and also won the event. Jenna Hoiland won the women's triple jump with her new school record of 11.73m, which landed her in the top 10 on the NCAA National Indoor List currently. If she remains in the top 20 on the list, she will qualify for the NCAA National Indoor Championships in March. On Sunday at University of Portland, Garrett Stewart broke the men's indoor 800m record with his performance of 1:56.69, good for a runner-up finish in the event.
Also running fast on the track was Garet Neal, who secured a PR in the men's mile (4:37.81) and is now second place on the Indoor Top 10 list. In the men's 3,000m race, Oliver Joss ran a PR of 9:06.77 to move up to fourth place on the list.
In addition to setting a new PR and school record in the weight throw, Andrew Reid also threw a PR in the men's shot put (13.35m) to win the event and move him to fifth place on the Top 10 list.
Liz Bradley dropped yet another massive PR in the 800m, running 2:23.81 for second place, just 1.9 seconds off the school record. In the women's 3,000m, Hannah Berdahl (10:53.51) and Bethany Kalebaugh (11:28.14) both ran PRs, and Berdahl moved up to fourth on the indoor Top 10 list. In the women's mile, Maddy Hubbs ran a big PR (5:37.12) for tenth place and took the fourth spot on the Top 10 list. Ryanne Navaro ran a PR in the 400m (62.72) for sixth place and moved to fifth on the list.
Sophia Henke took second place in the high jump with her clearance of 1.57m, tying her for second on the Top 10 list. Itzel Vazquez set a PR in the long jump (4.56m) and now sits third on the Top 10 list. Emily DeYoung threw a PR in the women's shot put again (11.74m) to finish in third place and move herself to second on the list. DeYoung also threw a huge PR in the weight throw (12.33m) to finish fifth and move up to fourth on the list.
"The teams continue to build on their performances week to week," assistant coach Ryan Hunter-Simms said. "There's so much improvement happening. It's going to be great to carry this momentum into the outdoor season soon."
The Boxers will compete in one more regular season meet at University of Washington next weekend, hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
