Corvallis, OR - The Boxers were represented by seven athletes at the Oregon State University High Performance Meet on Friday, August 30th. The athletes competed against large fields representing NCAA DI, DII and DIII institutions as well as junior colleges and NAIA schools. Two freshmen,
Erik Maack and
Annie Berry, put up qualifying marks for the NWC in the 5,000m races.
The Boxers started off the night with junior
Kara Putman and freshman
Annie Berry racing in the women's 5,000m open race. Putman took 18th place with a time of 18:15.13. Putman was the first DIII competitior to cross the finish line. Teammate
Annie Berry finished in 23rd place with a time of 18:34.75, a large PR for her and also a NWC qualifier. She was the fourth DIII finisher in the field.Â
The men followed with four Boxers in the open 5,000m race. Seniors
Riley Stewart and
Nick Slenning placed 9th and 10th, respectively, in times of 15:36.77 and 15:38.46. Freshman
Erik Maack moved up from the chase pack during the race to finish 16th in a time of 16:03.29, which is a Northwest Conference qualifying mark.
Oliver Joss finished in 20th place in 16:36.69.
Eliza Irish wrapped up the Boxer's day at OSU with her 7th place finish in the women's open steeplechase race. This was Irish's third time competing in this event, and she ran a new PR of 11:39.62. Irish was the only DIII runner in the race, and competed very well against large-school talent.Â
The Boxers will be competing on Thursday, May 6, at George Fox University in preparation for the Northwest Conference Championships, hosted by Pacific University, May 13-14.Â
