Tacoma, Wash. – Courtney Tiernan competed in the Northwest Conference Multi Events Championship on Monday - Tuesday, April 10-11. Tiernan took 9th place in the event. 

This was freshman Tiernan's first NWC Heptathlon. Tiernan finished 9th in the 100m hurdles, 9th in the high jump, 8th in the shot put, 9th in the 200m, 8th in the long jump, 7th in the javelin and 7th in the 800m, for an overall 9th place finish and total score of 2501. 

The Northwest Conference Outdoor Championships are held Friday - Saturday, April 21-22. The NWC Multi Event Championship that happened this Monday and Tuesday are part of the overall NWC Outdoor Championship meet. The heptathlon and decathlon are scored as a single event, even though the events themselves are comprised of 7 and 10 individual events, respectively. So, the winners of the heptathlon and decathlon score 10 points for their team, second place scores 8 points for their team, etc., with those points going towards the NWC Outdoor Championship scores. 

On the women's side, George fox scored 26 points in the heptathlon as they had four women finish in first, second, fourth and sixth. Lewis and Clark scored 7 points, the next best score, for their women who finished third and eighth. On the men's side, George Fox scored 12 points as they had two athletes finish first and seventh. Pacific Lutheran had the next highest score of 8 points for their athlete who finished in second place.
