Two More School Records Set for Boxer Track and Field

NEWBERG and PORTLAND, Ore. – The Boxer men and women's track teams competed in the George Fox University Indoor #2 meet on Saturday, February 17, and again in the Portland Indoor #3 track meet at the University of Portland and on Sunday, February 18. The running events of 200m and longer were contested at University of Portland, and the hurdles, running events less than 200m and all field events were contested at George Fox University. Annie Berry set a new school record in the women's mile, clocking in at 5:11.17, and Emily Rutkowski set a new record in the women's indoor 400m, running a time of 59.79.

Top Performers

Annie Berry and Emily Rutkowski were the two Boxers to set a new school record this weekend. Berry took third place overall in the women's mile, running a time of 5:11.17, to break Stephenie Spencer's record of 5:11.54 set in 2016. 

In the women's 400m, both Emily Rutkowski and Angelica Gatica Gomez ran record-breaking times. Gatica Gomez ran 59.82 to take third place to Rutkowski's second place finish, which she ran in 59.87. Both times bested the previous record of 1:00.31, set by Angelica Gatica Gomez in 2023. Rutkowski's time of 59.87 is now the new school record. 

At George Fox on Saturday, Ally Hammond won the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.01, and also won the women's long jump competition with her jump of 5.29m. Lucas Dahl took third overall in the men's long jump with his mark of 6.72m. The women's throws squad had two third-place finishes, one from Autumn Gerard, who took third in the women's shot put with her throw of 10.42m, and Makayla Tuiolemotu took third in the women's weight throw with her toss of 12.27m. 

At University of Portland, Brody Bantolina took third in the men's 200m, running a time of 23.72. Lucas Dahl placed third in the men's 400m, clocking in at 51.87. Bailey Kalar took third in the women's 800m, running a time of 2:51.52. The women's "A" 4x400m team took second and the women's "B" 4x400m team took third place, and the men's "A" 4x400m team won the race with a time of 3:40.84 and a team of Lucas Dahl, Alex Heinze, Zion Booker and Kameron Shields.

The Boxers will compete in the first outdoor meet of the season at the Linfield IceBreaker meet on March 1-2. On Friday, March 1, the 10k races will be contested in the evening. Saturday, March 2 will have a full track meet schedule.
