McMinnville, Ore. – The Boxer men and women's track teams competed in the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker meet on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2. This was the first outdoor meet of the 2024 season. Conditions were harsh on Saturday, with a temperature high of 43 degrees and constant rain, snow, sleet and hail. Despite the weather, several Boxers had good performances and qualified for the Northwest Conference Championships in their respective events.
Top Performers
The 10,000m races were contested on Friday night under the lights. Alena Krull, Cris Brethower, and Reese Yamamoto all qualified for NWC in this event, as well as walked away with significant PRs. Brethower took fifth and Krull took 7th place in the women's race, with Yamamoto taking 28th in the men's race.
On Saturday, the rest of the meet was contested. Ally Hammond won the women's 100m dash with her time of 12.83 and Jonette Singh won the women's triple jump with her mark of 9.78m, beating the next best jumper by more than a foot. Angelica Gatica-Gomez took second place in the women's 200m, with her time of 26.76, and Ryan Miller took second place in the men's long jump with his mark of 6.61m. The men's 4 x 100m relay team of Romel Moreland, Josiah Chaffin, Zion Booker and Lucas Dahl took second place with their time of 43.26.
